About this Practice

Shoulder rotation. One of the most important preparatory exercises, releasing the chronic tension stored in the shoulder girdle and upper back. Addresses the most common modern postural complaint — hunched, rounded shoulders.

How to Practise

  1. 1

    Sit or stand with spine erect.

  2. 2

    Place fingertips on the shoulders.

  3. 3

    Draw large circles with the elbows — forward, up, back, and down.

  4. 4

    10 rotations forward, then 10 backward. Focus on maximum range of motion.
