Sitali Pranayam

About this Practice

The cooling breath. Inhalation through a curled tongue or gently parted teeth creates a natural cooling, humidifying effect on the breath. Sitali reduces body heat, calms the mind, and lowers blood pressure.

How to Practise

  1. 1

    Sit comfortably. Roll the tongue into a tube (or part the lips slightly if unable).

  2. 2

    Inhale slowly through the curled tongue/parted teeth, drawing cool air over the tongue.

  3. 3

    Close the mouth. Hold gently for 2–4 counts.

  4. 4

    Exhale slowly through both nostrils.

  5. 5

    This completes one round. Practise 10–15 rounds.

  6. 6

    Ideally practised in the morning or during summer heat.

⚠️ Cautions & Contraindications

Cold, cough, or congestion. Asthma (breathe through slightly parted lips only). Low blood pressure.
